If you’re considering agility training for your dog because of its capabilities, there are a few things you should know. Agility training is great for the dog, and it can be something that they can learn, and maybe even grow to execute over time. However, there are a few basic items to get first, and they are listed here.
The first is a tunnel. A little tunnel is a great starting device, because the dog will learn to go through it swiftly. This is good for also teaching direction to the dog as well, as it can make things easier for it.
Then there are leather leashes. Usually, when starting having one of these reduces the pull, and it will make the dog learn to walk at a normal pace and not rely on dragging you. This is good for starting, because you can lead them through the course as well.
Jumping is another tool that the dog must learn. Having a small little bar attached to two poles is a great way to start. The dog will have to jump over it, and you can teach it by having the dog start off very low, and then working up. Using treats as a reward system works for this as well.
Having an agility course in your home might seem a bit strange, but once you start to teach your dog how to use it, it’s a great way to get the dog exercise, and who knows you might even be able to compete with your pooch over time.
